“Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable.”—C.S. Lewis (via 500-daysoftumblr)
“And it’s in this pursuit of newness, I believe, that we can find a temporary cure for what ails us. It’s as elementary as third grade: Stop buying stuff all the time.”
“The EPA says people in the United States now have a combined total of 3 billion electronic products. And every year, the average person will spend $1,200 on acquiring more, only to throw away the stuff they already have. Americans throw away about 130,000 computers per day, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. We also toss about 100 million cellphones a year.”
What’s going on? What makes sense to me right now probably won’t make sense in the morning and then eventually it might make sense again only to further be confused in my jumbles of thoughts. I’ll probably have some weird dream about it that will confuse me even more. I keep thinking that life is where I want it, then wake up realizing nothing is how I think it seems.
Bon Iver:And I told you to be patient, and I told you to be fine. I told you to be balanced, and I told you to be kind, but now all your love is wasted. And then who the hell was I?
Death Cab:So one last touch and then you'll go and we'll pretend that it meant something so much more. But it was vile, and it was cheap and you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me. Yeah, you are beautiful but you don't mean a thing to me
Radiohead:But I can't help the feeling I could blow through the ceiling if I just turn and run. And it wears me out... It wears me out. If I could be who you wanted, if I could be who you wanted all the time... all the time.
Brand New:You are calm and reposed, let your beauty unfold. Pale white like the skin stretched over your bones, spring keeps you ever close. You are secondhand smoke, you are so fragile and thin standing trial for your sins. Holding onto yourself the best you can. You are the smell before rain, you are the blood in my veins.
Nicki Minaj:You a stupid hoe, you a you a stupid hoe. You a stupid hoe, you a you a stupid hoe. You a stupid hoe, you a you a stupid hoe. You a stupid hoe, you a you a stupid hoe. You a stupid hoe, yeah you a you a stupid hoe.You a stupid hoe you a you a stupid hoe. You stupid stupid, you a stupid hoe
I won’t waste your time with my revelation Hello my friend, I see you’re back again Hello mystery, don’t bother to explain How ‘bout maybe, its all been in my head Hey, well, I’m tired of this black and blue
Stay up til 3:30 am so I don’t miss my taxi cab to the airport and be really tired tomorrow or set 6 alarms through 2 phones and go to bed for probably about 4-5 hours and be anxious about missing my flight?
I’m gonna wonder if any of my Ecua-friends are on it.
Most everybody is leaving today. Granted, I leave in about 36 hours so really have nothing to worry about. It’s just going to be strange to me to be in this city when I know there’s less people to call. I’m ready to go home.
Internet access EVERYWHERE even if sometimes it doesn’t work, it works the majority of the time and that means where you have final projects to do the internet bill won’t suddenly not be paid and you aren’t fucked because of it. And having computers everywhere that have powerpoint on them that you use because you don’t use powerpoint all that often enough to consider buying it for your five year old lap-top and because you’re too cheap and lazy to actually buy it. And being close to home so when you forget your notebook with your very important notes for your final project on your bed, it doesn’t require a six dollar taxi ride to go back and get it and come back to your friend’s host house which has wireless which you desperately miss. And a free scanner and printer access on every computer (basically) and print credits, and everything about technology that I don’t get in Ecuador.
But not quite yet. Just got back from half a month spent in the Galapagos studying, snorkeling, being a tourist in a large group and exploring with a small group (pictures and descriptions to come). A wonderful experience during which I saw many sea lions, blue footed boobies, sea turtles, cacti…
“When people are ready to, they change. They never do it before then, and sometimes they die before they get around to it. You can’t make them change if they don’t want to, just like when they do want to, you can’t stop them.”—Andy Warhol (via irrelevantttt)
